About Me
Form and Colour
I am an after-midnight artist. Bringing emotion to action, my imagery emerges from unknowns. The catalyst for my work comes from four mentors and disciplines. The first was plein air watercolor technique with Peg Benedict, my mother. The second was with innovative postmodern dance pioneer Anna Halprin who inspired dance and movement in my painting. The third was in a community-building enterprise with Mary Jorgensen, a Quaker political activist. And a fourth discipline was daily work in a ceramics studio with Eunice Prieto, making pottery for the sake of experimentation when applying glazes. After early training in the sciences: a B.A. in Biology from Mills College in Oakland I shifted my focus to the arts, completing a M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies, again at Mills, concluding with a thesis interpretation of music and literature in paint titled “Mazzepa”. These experiences have shaped the parameters of my form and color. The Mills College Library in Oakland has a permanent piece of mine titled “A Promise Is A Lotus Unfolding” (name: Susan Baldassari). Studio 41 in Benicia, CA shows and sells my work. Other installations include private homes and offices in New York, Hollywood, Santa Cruz, Benicia, Oakland, Venice, Los Angeles, Lake Tahoe, and San Rafael. Contact:
